Aladdin is a fictional story that originated from Agabra. Lyrics
I can show you the world
Shining, shimmering, splendid
Tell me, princess, now when did You last let your heart decide?
I can open your eyes

Take you wonder by wonder Over,
sideways and under On a magic carpet ride
A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view

No one to tell us no Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world
A dazzling place I never knew

But now from way up here It's crystal clear
That now I'm in a whole new world with you
Unbelievable sights
Indescribable feeling

Soaring, tumbling, free wheeling
Through an endless diamond sky
A whole new world (don't you dare close your eyes)
A hundred thousand things to see (hold your breath, it gets better)

I'm like a shooting star I've come so far
I can't go back to where I used to be A whole new world
With new horizons to pursue
I'll chase them anywhere

There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you
A whole new world (a whole new world)
A new fantastic point of view

No one to tell us no Or where to go
Or say we're only dreaming
A whole new world (every turn a surprise)
With new horizons to pursue (every moment red-letter)

I'll chase them anywhere
There's time to spare Anywhere
There's time to spare
Let me share this whole new world with you

A whole new world (a whole new world)
That's where we'll be (where we will be)
A thrilling chase (a wondrous place)
For you and me

Instruments
The instruments of a whole new world includes String family (Violin),  and Woodwinds (Flute & Oboe). The chords in the song involves E, A, D,G,B, and E.

Music Elements

Dynamics
The main focus of the music I would like to point out is the instruments dynamics starts out hard.  Once Aladdin and Jasmine start singing it would switch to soft back ground music and does it throughout the song.

Interval
Aladdin starts out the song then later Jasmine would step in. Both Aladdin and Jasmine are singing throughout the song with an octave, where Aladdin sings a tenor/Saprano, while Jasmine sings as a Alto to the song.

Behind the Song
Behind the song of "A Whole New World" is where Aladdin takes out Jasmine on a carpet ride, where Jasmine has not stepped out of the palace, in my opinion, her whole life. Aladdin picks her up and explore what seems beyond Agrabah, where Jasmine finds it amusing to ride through the clouds and beyond Agrabah. Aladdin is giving her the view what is like beyond the gates of the palace, and explore "A whole new world".

My Opinion
I have enjoyed writing this blog even though I turned it in late. Aladdin is one of my top 10 cartoon movies growing up since it had a lot of singing in it. This movie came out when I was 4 years old, and not knowing what was going on in the movie, I was more interested in listening and learning the music "A Whole New World". Now that I am an adult, I now understand the movie on what is happening, where Jasmine feels like she is stuck in a palace, wanting to explore the world without being over protected.

Comments

  1. Aladdin was a movie that was watched a lot in my house while growing up. The song A Whole New World is literally about a whole new world. Them using this song in the scene where Aladdin takes Jasmine out to view the world outside of the palace fits perfectly because the the beat and tempo of the song is more moderate almost as if it is a lead up to her new view of things. You said the dynamics of the song started out loud but then would soften up as they sing the lyrics and I think that really brought attention to what was going on and then them singing with the soft background painted a picture of them enjoying the new view and feeling good and calm about it. Great Post!

  2. I really loved this movie growing up as well, even though I haven't watched it but a few times. A whole new world is a really pivital point in the movie for Jasmine, since she hasn't had any experience outside the castle. Having Aladdin take her on this carpet ride shows her what she's been missing her whole life, and makes her yearn for a life outside of her mundane routine in the palace. I really liked how much info you put into describing the mechanics of the song; it's nice to see what all has gone into it. Great post!
