A Tribute of Freddie Mercury

Biography of Freddie Mercury

Known for his famous lead singing, Freddie Mercury is one of the band members of Queen. His original name is Farrokh Bulsara was born September 5, 1946 in Stone Town, Zanzibar, now known as Tanzania. According to Planetradio.co.uk website, "Freddie Mercury's real name is Raffokh Bulsara. Despite some people spelling his name 'Freddie Mercury', the icon chose to spell his stage name as Freddie Mercury. He legally changed his name to Freddie Mercury around 1970, when Queen was formed."

Freddie's parents, Bomi and Jer Bulsara are identified as Indian Parsi. The family of Bulsara moved from India to Fetham, England , where Freddie's father, Bomi worked as a clerk for the British Government. As a child, Freddie was artistically inclined from an early age in forming a band, which his part was playing the Piano. According to Britannica.com, "[Freddie] He later studied graphic art and design at Ealing Technical College and School of Art (now part of University of West London), graduating in 1969."

Joining band after band, he later befriend with guitarist Brian May, and drummer Roger Taylor, the band of Smile. Since the band had no success with their music, the lead singer of Smile quit, this is where Freddie joined in and changed the band name to Queen, along with his legal name.

After blending in their harmonic singing and their layered guitar work, they failed to get attention from United Kingdom. In 1974 their album Sheer Night Attack sky rocked international charts, then after in 1975 their second album A Night at the Opera sold even better.  By 1980, Queen became an "international phenomenon" for their elaborate stage performances.

In 1991 he announced that he was diagnosed with AIDS, and later died due to health complications from the disease. Even after his death, Freddie continued to his singing and was part of a posthuman featured songs in the last Queen album Made in Heaven.

What role did Freddie Serve?

All four of the band members of Queen wrote hit songs and was sung by Freddie. Freddie did not get any training on his formal voice, but he had an distinctive voice that was able to serve four (4) octave vocal range.  He was able to hit low to F below the bass clef, and as high as D four octaves before that. According to Wikipedia "In October 1984, images of hundreds of thousands of people starving to death in Ethiopia were shown in the UK in Michael Buerk's BBC News reports on the 1984 famine". Music Elements

The tempo of song "Don't Stop Me Now' started out slow and the dynamics were soft which made the intro of the song a good start. Once the tempo and the beat speeded up is when the song got interesting (when I first heard it). Thoughout the song, all the band members would have a harmonic polyphonic texture on the part "Don't Stop Me Now".
For the song "Bohemian Rhapsody" the song starts out as a harmonic polyphonic where all the band member sings together making the intro of the song interesting. Once Freddie start singing the beginning the dynamic starts soft, as he plays further more is when the dynamics picked up to hard. There are at least 3 different songs, including the first part of the song. The middle part of the song is when the tempo picked up more and made the dynamics hard. The guitar solo made the song interesting to listen to

Personal Opinion
I was not a big fan of Queen until the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" came out in 2018. In my younger years I thought it was just any typical Disco music like "Dancing Queen" from the band ABBA. After watching the movie is when I downloaded most of the hit songs like the music videos above. I never knew how much the genre Rock was a hit back then, and the interesting part of the movie is that all the band members wrote each song. In the movie, the band members would fight over on whose song will in the album.
